We were all taught on how to work in a team and as a team in school. These group projects are implemented to help us understand the concept of working together in the future. While school is all fun and games, the work life is filled with seriousness. A successful team consists of great team players that are able to work harmoniously together. If you’re looking of ways to improve yourself, here are 5 tips on how to be a great team player!

1. Stay positive

Whether positive or negative, a team player’s attitude can leave a huge impact on the team. Imagine having someone who’s always so negative about everything. Other team members are bound to feel the same and this can cause everyone’s morale to drop. Try to stay positive at all cost when working with your team. Don’t let little setbacks stop you from progressing as a team. So be the great team player that you are and just spread positive vibes!

2. Be committed

When working as a team, you need to be a committed team player. This includes being present for all meetings, participate actively in discussions, and be willing to give your all for the team. Every other member needs to posses the same level of commitment too. It’s only then that you can see the efforts being put in and paying off with the progress made. A team of non-committed individuals is only going to bring trouble and hold the entire team down. Thus, ensure that you’re able to offer the support the team needs should they require help.

3. Flexible

It’s impossible for conflicts not to happen within the team. Everyone has differing views, opinions, approaches, ideas, and skills. The challenge is to get all team players to be flexible and collaborative. A good team will have team players who don’t exclude anyone when it comes to decision making and problem-solving. It doesn’t matter if you’re smarter than the rest of them or make better decisions. Great team players are the ones who understand that having a variety of opinions leads to optimal solutions.

4. Adapts to changes

Change is inevitable and sometimes unexpected. Everyone has different ways on how they manage change but great team players are able to adapt to them quickly. They would take change as a drive to positively change themselves too. Additionally, they don’t whine or get stressed about last minute changes. Great team players are the ones that are ever ready for whatever that comes in their way! Just remember to adapt and think positively of the situation! You can learn this skill of adapting to changes through games such as archery tag, laser tag, bubble soccer, and poolball.

5. Takes initiative

We all love team players that take initiative. They don’t have to be told repeatedly to do things and get it done promptly. Regular team players will only get their share of workload done and what is expected from them. Great team players will go beyond their comfort zones to come up with creative ideas or even taking risks! The extra responsibility that they take up is what sets them apart from normal team players.
